USARA spearheads Utah’s advocacy efforts to educate and provide information about substance use disorders and recovery for policy makers and our community. We want our legislatures to make informed decisions about Utahns who need access to health care and funding for prevention, treatment and recovery support services.

USARA and NAMI Utah host the annual “Rally for Recovery” during the Legislative Session at the Utah State Capitol. The event is advocacy in action, and provides an opportunity for our our Utah legislatures to see the positive impact of their decisions to fund prevention, treatment, and recovery programs. This advocacy effort brings together hundreds of people, who are the Voices of Recovery, to communicate to our government leaders the positive impact that Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Support has on the people of Utah.

Our Top Advocacy Priorities Are:

  • Criminal Justice Reform
  • Reduction of Opiate Overdose Deaths in Utah
  • Utah Applications for Expungement and Pardons for Drug Related Convictions
  • Utah’s Health Care Coverage for Adults without Insurance
  • Comprehensive Addiction Recovery Act (CARA)
  • Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA)

Our goal is to impact the decisions about proposed Bills and funding cuts, and to raise awareness that every dollar spent on Substance Abuse Services has personal benefit to citizens of Utah in need of help. As we increase our advocacy efforts and this level of support we will continue to reduce the barriers that many people seeking help often face.
