An innovative peer-to-peer recovery support service.

TRS offers weekly telephone calls to people in recovery to “check in” and see how they’re doing.  Recoverees are given support and encouragement as well as information about community resources, all recovery, 12-step meetings or other supports that may help them maintain their recovery.  TRS helps reduce relapse and enhances the recovery experience for recoverees as well as the volunteer making the calls.

Calls are made by trained USARA volunteers that are, in many instances, in recovery themselves.  TRS calls take place at USARA’s Recovery Community Center in Salt Lake County.  However, anyone seeking recovery support throughout Utah can sign up to receive a support call.

TRS calls will be made Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.  Individuals interested in signing up for this service will need to provide contact information, preferred time and date of support call, location, and if we can leave a message on an answering machine.

On average, people receive calls for 15 weeks, often much longer. Imagine the spiritual ripple effect of over 1,000 conversations each year about the hope and healing of recovery. The impact on our state is literally immeasurable. We do know that our calls help people in recovery when a relapse occurs. When someone tells us they have relapsed, we don’t kick them out of the program; we keep calling them, checking in with them, seeing if they want help. When someone is down, that’s when he or she needs the most support. USARA is often the only encouraging voice heard at a critical junction on the road of their recovery.
