Organization Description

USARA is Utah’s a statewide peer-run Recovery Community Organization (RCO) mission is to celebrate, advocate, support and empower people in all stages of addiction recovery connecting them to resources, building communities and raising public awareness that recovery is possible.

USARA provides non-clinical peer facilitated Recovery Support Services (RSS) in Salt Lake County and Grand County (Moab). Programs and activities offered in Salt Lake County at our Recovery Community Center (RCC) are as follows: 1) Addiction Recovery Management (ARM) for Individuals and families dealing with Substance Use Disorders, 2) Family Support, 3) Telephone Recovery Support, and 4) Recovery Leadership Initiative (RLI).

USARA’s Peer Recovery Coach (PRC) is a non-clinical peer position that supports working with individuals, family members and community agencies to provide recovery support services and facilitate connection to resources that will assist with substance use disorders (SUDs) to initiate and sustain recovery from addiction.

Summary of Job Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, the PRC will assist program participants in the development and implementation of a Recovery Management Plan (RMP) to target specific life goals and barriers that may interfere with the success of their recovery. PRC will guide and support individuals to make life changes that create overall improvement in areas of health, home, community and purpose.
The overall goals of this position is to (a) engage people in recovery support services as individually determined, (b) assist people with in developing skills to manage and maintain long-term recovery, including abstinence from substances, reduction of harmful effects of substance use and impovement of overall physical and mental health, social support and environmental stability.

Job Duties

Provide peer recovery support services to program participants, individually and in a group setting
Organize and complete program orientation for new participants
Work with participants to determine best use of services according to their individual needs
Schedule, organize and attend at all Peer Advisory Council meetings and other meetings as requested by Program Manager
Assist Program Manager in the development, implementation and maintenance of the program activities calendar
Maintain regular communications with participants, volunteers and advisory council members
Assist Program Manager in the development and implementation of all training and sober activities
Collaborate with counselors, case workers, and outside agencies to deliver the appropriate services to participants

Qualifications

Must have strong interpersonal skills. This includes the ability to listen, give direction and guidance, and work collaboratively with participants and volunteers
Must have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, and knowledge of community resources
Must be a self-starter and internally motivated to achieve program and individual objectives
Must have excellent organizational skills to ensure efficiency in program delivery and evaluation
Ability to negotiate difficult situations and help motivate participants to better their circumstances
Familiarity with treatment programs and services, drug court, and multiple pathways to recovery
Personal recovery experience required (minimum of 3 years in recovery preferred).
Must have a valid Utah ID or Driver’s License and current auto insurance
Demonstrates proficiency with basic computer skills, including MS Office
Insurance benefit package available.
